Important notification to all contributers/committers:

On Sunday, March 22nd, we are going to proceed with step 3 and 4 of the proposed github migration procedure as outlined here. All committers, please commit everything you want to get into the repo before the migration until then.

The exact deadline for all commits to the old SVN repo on sourceforge is Sunday, March 22nd, 12am UTC. At that time commit access to the repo will be disabled (except for the project admins), and the SVN repo will be imported to a new repo on github.

Once the import process is complete and the new repo online, I'll post another notification here in this thread. From then on the github repo will be the official repo of the FreeOrion project.

Please post all replies to this announcement in the github migration thread.

EDIT1: Due to some difficulties, the import procedure (step 4!) will be repeated on Wednesday, March 25th, at 6pm UTC (see below).
EDIT2: Having the possibility to iron out some more issues we are going to repeat the import once again, most likely March 26th / 27th.
EDIT3: Still working on the migration of the repository, because there are still some issues left we need to deal with. So we maybe won't be able to complete the migration today (March 27th).
EDIT4: Migration to github is finally complete.

The SVN repository on sourceforge has been successfully imported into a new git repository on github.

Commit access to the old SVN repo has been revoked from all committers except the project admins, and the new github repo has been added to the Developers team of the freeorion organizational account, granting them commit access.

The github repository is now officially the new main repo of the FreeOrion project. The old SVN repo will no longer receive any updates/commits.

Due to some difficulties with associating the commits of the imported repo with the github accounts of our devs, we decided to redo the import. That means:

• Please do not fork or clone the freeorion repo, as you would have to do that again after the reimport.
• Please do not commit any work to the repo as that would be lost.
• If you already have forked or cloned the repo, you will have to do that again after the reimport.

I hope to do the reimport ASAP, I'll post another notification as soon as I know when the reimport can be done.

Ok, deadline for the re-import of the freeorion main repository is:

Wednesday, March 25th, 6pm UTC

Starting reimport now. Current freeorion repo will be renamed to freeorion-backup, svn repo will again be imported as freeorion.

Reimport done.

The repo is ready for use.

As one of our devs found another alternative to migrate the SVN repository that promises to give us a git repo with a cleaner, more consistent commit history, we will make another attemt at importing the repo. That means we still need to keep normal operation suspended, please refrain from cloning/forking/committing (unless for testing purposes).

The (hopfully last) attempt to migrate our repository is scheduled for today, March 26th, or tomorrow, March 27th (if something unforeseen happens).

Unfortunately, we have still some issues to deal with, so we might not be able to complete the migration today (March 27th). Hang on and stay tuned!
