Try to calculate how many PPs and RPs you will have produced by turn 40 with each approach. Space elevator (150 PP / 6 Turns, 15 turns actually, ready at ~38-th turn)
That may give +3 colonies in total (in addition to 2 starting colonies), all five will grow simultaneously.
