[email protected] if an address is required...
Keep in mind that inquires will be in French.
So should I use the gmail one (which will make some people unhappy - including me but I'm not going to throw a fit about it) or one (like protonmail as I suggested) that I can monitor myself at least for the time being (which allows me to answer in French to French inquiries)?
I certainly can ask people to direct their inquiries to github (which may also discourage people interested in free software, by the by, but I'll go with your decision) and/or the forums, so maybe this address won't be used much, there's no real way to know in advance.

The Fediverse is the sum of all servers connected through the ActivityPub protocol.
Mastodon is a fork of GNUsocial that succeeded, basically - it's the flagship of the Fediverse.
I don't know what GNUsocial or the ActivityPub protocol are, or what it means to be the flagship.
Ah.
Like Oberlus says, GNUsocial (and Mastodon) began as a free and decentralized social network a bit like twitter (though the saying was that "GNUsocial would need a second user to actually be a social network").
AcitivityPub is an internet standard developed by the W3C and Mastodon uses it.
There are a lot of other softwares using ActivityPub (and as such being able to interact with the rest of the Fediverse) but none has been as succesful as Mastodon (2 million accounts I think ?) which makes Mastodon the most known amongst the Fediverse (hence, its flagship).
More importantly, I asked about creating (and managing, though if I'm the one going to do it, it will be a minimum-level management, announcing events and answering questions as long as there are not too many of them) an account for the FreeOrion project on the Fediverse in order to reach to potentially interested people, since a lot of people on the Fediverse are technically-oriented and those are mostly free software (or at least open-source) enthusiasts.
