freeorion RPM-packages
I built rpm-packages of freeorion for Mandrivalinux 2008.0!
Anyone interested can download them out of our repository at ftp://ftp.mandrivauser.de/rpm/GPL/2008.0.
All dependencies, that are not part of the Mandrivalinux distribution, can be found there, too.
Packages are available for i586, x86_64 and as SRPM for everyone who wants to rebuild them for his own distribution.
Momentarily it is (the somewhat older) revision 2422 out of svn, gigi can be found in revision 637 but I try to keep them up to date...

Thanks. I've added a link to that post on the Download page on the wiki.

Re: freeorion RPM-packages
New packages available.
svn-Revision 2642 for Mandrivalinux2008.1.
gigi and boost packages in the latest versions are also on the server.
Momentarily only x86_64-packages are online, i586 should follow in the next few days. The packages can be found on the mandrivauser.de-ftp-Server ftp://ftp.mandrivauser.de/rpm/GPL/2008.1/
SRPMS for people, wanting to rebuild it for other rpm-based packages are also on the server.

Re: freeorion RPM-packages
Would be interesting if these rpm's install and run fine on SuSE or Fedora Linuxes.
As far as you release a 32 bit version, I'll test it on SuSE 10.3

Re: freeorion RPM-packages
I just finished building new RPM-packages thanks to a patch posted in a thread of mine in the "compile" forum.
GG svn-revision: 688
FreeOrion svn-revision: 2705
The packages were built on Mandrivalinux 2009.0, they will be uploaded on the mandrivauser.de ftp server in the next 12 hours.
For the time being only i586-packages will be available until I get acces to an x86_64-machine again.
I would welcome comments on those packages running on other distros.

Re: freeorion RPM-packages
Oliver; have you considered using VM's for building purposes? I'm particularly fond of VMware Server as a solution -- considering it's freeware, and all. But if you're an OSS fanatic, there's also QEMU and KVM.

Re: freeorion RPM-packages
I'm using VBox personally, it's OSS after all...
You think about x86_64?
The problem is, FO is needing quite a lot of resources to buil, it's needing loads of time, if you have only 512MB available.
Since my system only has 1GB of RAM, I can't preserve more than 512MB for the VM.
So it's not working well using a VM.

Re: freeorion RPM-packages
Wow. I guess I'm spoiled w/ my 4GB laptop. I imagine you could always run it overnight, though. I'm still working on setting up to get my own system running the compiler correctly. THEN I'll worry about making static binaries to upload. :/

Re: freeorion RPM-packages
I just wanted to inform:
I fixed some minor glitches in the spec files of the gigi and freeorion packages.
The packages are now available in the latest svn revisions 693 and 2725.
Binary (i586) packages can be found at ftp://ftp.mandrivauser.de/rpm/GPL/2009.0/i586/release/ source-packages at ftp://ftp.mandrivauser.de/rpm/GPL/2009.0/SRPMS/release/
The spec files contain a few Mandriva specific makros, that have to be changed before rebuilding the source packages on other distros and I can't tell, if the binary packages can be installed on other rpm-based distros.
Please test!

Re: freeorion RPM-packages
Just for information: We found a new member for our RPM-team who has an x86_64 machine. I hope we can provide x86_64 packages of GG and FO soon.

Re: freeorion RPM-packages
You should use revision 2732 for a release, as linux v0.3.11 is based on that revision.
Does revision 2725 not crash if you add to many buildings to the production crew? This is a known bug in revisions <2732.

Re: freeorion RPM-packages
I used 2725 when I built it, our new x86_64-packager just rebuilt my packages. I will do a new built in the next few days...
Oliver
EDIT: Should I prefer FO-2732svn and GG-695svn to the actual FO-2782svn and GG-700svn?

Re: freeorion RPM-packages
The never revisions have new features, but maybe new bugs
FO-2732svn is what we released on sourceforge - if you use that version it would be easier to support the users.
So its your decision what to do
