Please always put up a tar.gz of releases

#1 Post by charlieg »

I know there is probably a reason (e.g. nobody has checked the release compilation procedure) but don't just put up Windows binaries when announcing releases. At the very least state that the source release is pending somebody to check it compiles. People don't want to svn just to get a release each time...

There is a "Download GNU tarball" on the SVN web interface.

http://freeorion.svn.sourceforge.net/vi ... FreeOrion/

Combined with the "Sticky Revision" selector, you can download any SVN revision you want, including ones corresponding to relases. New releases are usually indicated in the SVN logs by a message by tzlaine along the lines of "Updated install script and build_config.py for a new release."

You'll also want to get the GiGi code the same way

http://gigi.svn.sourceforge.net/viewvc/gigi/trunk/GG/

I put the last two numbered releases with links to the appropriate revisions of FreeOrion and GiGi on the wiki Compile page: http://freeorion.org/index.php/Compile#Tarballs
