Compiling FreeOrion for Mac?

#1 Post by haravikk »

I'm just wondering if anyone on OS X has tried compiling free Orion?

I tried to once on my current computer, but I kept getting errors and such as I believe there were components missing.

I am however getting a new computer soon (Dual 2.5ghz G5, swish!) and I would like to try again.

Essentially what I'm looking for is either a list of all the stuff that FreeOrion relies on so that I can make sure they are installed before hand. If someone could even package all these things together with a single install script it would simplify things immensely!

Once I've got it running fine under Unix I can then start trying the the process of creating an application that runs natively in OS X. Once I've figured that out then I can start doing the same thing every time a new version comes out, and let some Mac users in on the action :D

I'll create a progress thread or add to this if I have any trouble

Someone already has it running under Mac OSX. You can try out preliminary binaries here:

Which version of OSX do you run? The latest CVS includes some changes that helped get it running on a Mac. You might be able to get it working easier now if you couldn't previously. This page doesn't have instructions on OSX, but may have useful information for you anyway:

Cheers, I feel stupid for not even noticing we had a programming forum before!

I'm running OS 10.3.5 so I have XCode etc available to me, the new machine will come with the same as Tiger isn't out for a while yet.

It is not working on Mac OS X

From WIKI
You can download a precompiled (out of date) version: for windows from here.

for Mac Os X : (v0.2)Binaries & gamedata and the needed frameworks

All the Frameworks have to be put into the /Library/Framworks/ folder.
~Library/Frameworks or System/Library/Frameworks should work too...
Would be cool the hear if it works on a different OsX machine. Has only been tested on Panther 10.3.5.
I tried to run install the game and it did not work... When I click on the file "freeorion" it opens the terminal and gives

/Applications/Jogos/fov0.2/freeorion; exit
dyld: /Applications/Jogos/fov0.2/freeorion can't open library: /usr/local/lib/libvorbisfile.0.dylib (No such file or directory, errno = 2)
Trace/BPT trap
logout
[Process completed]

What are the files "freeorionca" and "freeoriond"?

Thanks
