Re: uh oh..
Which version did you download? Try
There is a known bug in some versions, which may have been fixed now, but I did not upload a recent version.

Re: uh oh..
I get the same error with a fresh compile from trunk. GDB reports:

Re: uh oh..
MapWnd line 1673 is a glDrawArrays() call. Do you have OpenGL 2.0 compatible drivers?
Re: uh oh..
Run "glxinfo" and upload the output. Geofthemedio may be right, the game crashes if there aren't drivers installed that support OpenGL 2.0

This suggests your card has only support for OpenGL version 1.4.

Re: uh oh..
It might also help to turn off the galaxy gas map rendering, at the bottom of the UI tab of options. You can do this before starting a game so that that bit of code should never be run. It might still crash on another similar bit, though...
Re: uh oh..
Well, there you go! I'll try Geoff's suggestion when I get home.
I browsed through the Wiki (System Requirements and the Compile section) to determine if I could've avoided wasting your time with this, but I couldn't find anything that stated that OpenGL 2.0 was required.
Thank you all for the quick help, I'll come back in time for the release with better hardware
Regards,
Mattias
