Works well on Ubuntu Gutsy. Sound stuttered, but I think I read that's a common and solvable problem?

Sound or sound and music?

If it's sound and music then the problem lies between OpenAL and ALSA/OSS (whatever is used as a backend) and you should go to FO wiki's FAQ page - http://www.freeorion.org/index.php/FAQ and try using solutions provided there. Or just hope that the next thing that'll come to the world of linux audio will miraculosly fix all the problems (PulseAudio, OSS 4.0 - I'm counting on you two!)

If it's only the music that's stuttering and sounds play fine then can you tell me at how many FPS the stutering is audible (music decoding is not run in a separate thread, instead during the drawing of each frame audio system checks if it needs to refill any buffers).
abs(imag(ME) / abs(ME)) = exp(PI) - PI - 19;
