Help

Hello I have downloaded the game (demo on freeorion.org) but when I start it I can only see the main menu If I try to start a new game then it just turns on a black screen can someone help me please? :( :( :oops: :oops: :oops: :?:

What are your system specifications? Is your graphic driver up to date, what is your OpenGL version?
Please also post the contents of freeorion.log etc..
If I provided any images, code, scripts or other content here, it's released under GPL 2.0 and CC-BY-SA 3.0.

I have got windows Xp service pack 3 with a 1.6 intel celeron ghz processor and 512 mb ram about my graphics card am I not sure because some programs i can run and others not so I don't now if I have a 3d accelerator. But I want more information about Opengl please is it a program or a graphics card? :?:

Go to 'Start - Run' and then type "dxdiag". On the display tap you can see some details about your graphics card. The name and/or chip type are most important. If you know this, you can find out if the card supports OpenGL2.0, which is needed for freeOrion.

Although the specifications you list for your computer are somewhat low by today's standards, the fact that you can get to the menu screen suggests you might have OpenGL 2.0 support. Do please find the graphics card as suggested, but posting the contents of freeorion.log, freeoriond.log and any AI_?.log files from

C:\Users\Username\AppData\Roaming\FreeOrion (on Windows Vista)

C:\Documents and Settings\UserName\Application Data\FreeOrion (on WinXP)

is as or more important.

Also, try running in windowed mode, to make sure there are no popups from your firewall or something similar that aren't being shown when you have FreeOrion fullscreen.

Correction: on WinXP the log files should be in

C:\Documents and Settings\UserName\Application Data\FreeOrion

with appropriate UserName substitution.

However, you appear to have only OpenGL 1.4, so your system is not officially supported. That said, FreeOrion might run if you disable most things in the Options menu, Galaxy Map section.

Your graphic card does not support openGL 2.0. That's the reason FreeOrion is not working.
