Hi together,
I have a question about planetary bound species.
In my last game I met the phinnert. They have following text in their description:
a) "can´t build ships"
b) "can colonize planets"
For my understanding a) is preventing b) to happen.
Two possibilities...
- Did I oversee a possibility to "transport" the phinnert with "other ships" to new planets?
- Did I just misinterpret the text?
Thanks for your answer.

Re: question about planetary bound species (e.g. phinnert)
One can colonize a planet in the same system using a colony base rather then a ship, not sure if the can't build ships also applies to colony bases or not though.
Re: question about planetary bound species (e.g. phinnert)
Still, there is a possibility of b) without a), hence separate attributes.

Re: question about planetary bound species (e.g. phinnert)
ah ok thanks. I just forgot the "same system" is possible via base, not ship
Re: question about planetary bound species (e.g. phinnert)
I personally think the lore around these attributes need to be improved (current text causes this confusion for a lot of new players). Brainstorming attribute names that make more sense (?): Planet-bound, system bound. OR FTL species, intra-solar species...

Re: question about planetary bound species (e.g. phinnert)
My intention with this combination for species like the Phinnert, is that they are too technologically inept to be space pilots, but they are able to colonize other worlds. In other words:schpidi wrote:a) "can´t build ships"
b) "can colonize planets"
can't build ships- except colony ships.
But that's not how it now.

Define "colony ships" ?eleazar wrote:can't build ships- except colony ships.
Re: question about planetary bound species (e.g. phinnert)
I assume the fact that colony ships are still other ships are the reason that "that isn't the way it is now". If we do change to the sort of system in the colonization change thread, with population buildings instead of colony ships, we might actually be able to have all 4 combinations meaningful, though -- that's probably what he's thinking of.Geoff the Medio wrote:Define "colony ships" ?eleazar wrote:can't build ships- except colony ships.
