I recently started working on the Italian translation for the new version of FreeOrion,
a short will attach the file that I'm preparing to post this in the hope that it will be

Re: Italian Translation
Hello Shining,
good to hear that you want to contribute. Just in case you don't know: there is already an (outdated) italian translation. Maybe you can use it as a base for your translations.

Yes, I had seen and I started from that translation, but I'm also doing a complete
revision of the translation also doing a diff for missing voices missing that version.

Re: Italian Translation
Hi Shining
Congratulations it looks pretty good. So on.
As you certainly see now, our (we translators) biggest problem is space. To long for the allowed space! We just can call out in the forum: Programmers, more space please!
Just a little advice, erase line 4, because no one should come up with the idea to use this file for further translations. You can instead, if you want, put: #Translated by … or anything like that. So you keep the same number of lines as the original. Sometimes it’s helpfull!

Re: Italian Translation
Thanks for the advice shivu,
I'm really glad that the work is appreciated,
regarding the line 4 I was limited to translate also that
as in the original file, but take your advice replacing it.
A short an updated version, the translation of technologies
is really challenging
Thanks.

Re: Italian Translation
If you compress the stringtable into a zip format or something similar, the size limit on attached files shouldn't matter. (I'm assuming that's the space issue you refer to.) I forget if Windows has built in support for that yet, but if not you can use a tool like 7-zipshivu wrote:As you certainly see now, our (we translators) biggest problem is space. If I provided any code, scripts or other content here, it's released under GPL 2.0 and CC-BY-SA 3.0

Re: Italian Translation
Ah, ok. I suspect the best solution will primarily rely on reducing the font for entries that don't fit into the allotted space -- I'm pretty sure GiGi has a way to calculate the space needed by a given text & font.shivu wrote:I meant this:
