Space Stations

Is there a way to create a Space Station with the current scripting process?
I would like to be able to build a ship that I could then send to a system
to build a Space Station in the system that could be used to extend supply.
Having recently played a game in a somewhat large galaxy with low planets
it would be nice to be able to establish some kind of Deep Space Supply
Station in empty systems or ones that just have Gas Giants.
Maybe with the ability to upgrade it as well later to an armed station with
weapons and defenses.
Maybe it could be created as an artificial planet that cannot be inhabited
nor have any buildings on it.
No idea if any of this is possible, just throwing out ideas.

You can already outpost gas giants with an outpost ship.

Yes, but it has bad supply which cannot be upgraded except through better tech.
You can't build a Space Elevator on a Gas Giant.
I want to be able to by pass the Gas Giant entirely.

@ericf i was also playing with the idea of space stations. in my version they would only extend supply for a single system so you would have to chain them to get somewhere. scripting ships to do this is not possible in my understanding at the moment. what is definitly possible to implement refueling ships. What is also possible is scripting a ship which transforms into a planet (probably should add a 'space station' planet type) onto which e.g. you could stick some special for balancing effects.

I think space stations should be easily destroyed or taken over.
Any code or patches in anything posted here is released under the CC and GPL licences in use for the FO project.

So I think the simplest way to do a proper "space station" would be a ship with 0 starlane speed. Perhaps with some unique "station" slots.

But weather or not that's what you're going for depends a lot on what all you want stations to actually do. I mean otherwise maybe something that buffs gas-giant generator supply might be more what would actually give you what you want. Right now outposts work just fine as a territorial claiming system, and we probably won't use space stations for that like EVE online or Stellaris. But space stations are an idea that's come up often, but it hasn't taken priority. Probably after version 0.5 realistically. Unless you can quickly put together something simple and easy before then.
