In most Moo2 style games they have an arrangement of stars to form the galaxy. But what about the supermassive black hole in the middle of the galaxy. Should that be in the game, as a hazard, or for it's power to be harnessed by a mighty type III race (see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kardashev_scale).

Hmm.... Seems interesting.... But are ALL galaxies like that or just some of them?

So I've heard. But it seems to be mainly the larger ones and Spirals that we know have them. Maybe have only certain shapes have it?

I thought Blackhole harnessing was more of a Type 2 level, as it's certainly not giving off galactic amounts of power. Probably somewhere in between 2 and 3 really.

In some galaxys it's active and in some it's inactive. 'Active' means the black hole is absorbing matter, which get's accelerated so much, that it becomes extremely hot. So hot, that it will glow and the black hole becomes visible.

Yeah, I was thinking if you wanted to harness the power of a galaxy, build a dyson sphere around that super massive black hole in the center. But event then you would not be a type 3, would you.

Building a dyson shell around a black hole would distinctly not work. At least the gravity issues would rip the poor thing apart.
Plus BH's don't radiate in all directions like a star thus obviating a need for an entire dyson shell in the first plac.
Some sort of construct along the two poles which it shoots it's energy along would be optimum..

Actually the gravity would be a problem, but that's the same problem that a regular dyson sphere would face, just magnified several times. And yes Hawking radiation does go in all directions. It's the energy created by the accretion disk that doesn't. If we do the hole dyson sphere thing we could make this the most powerful sort that could be built.
