Better total Industry/Reasearch tooltip (Top panel)
Just as mousing over the Population icon in the top panel gives me a Population census, I thiink we could benefit from tooltips for the Industry and Research icons also.
I thought something visually simple (though I think could be quite tricky to implement), but which could give useful information - see the mock-up - which is currently, AFAIK, unavailable elsewhere.
I grabbed the mock-up from the planetary Industry tooltip and intentionally left out the accounting part, as I think that would be very visually polutted to get empire-wide accounting.
PS.: I'm still unsure if this is the correct board to post UI suggestions.

Yes please, very much so, for both Research and Production.

The total shown is already what you are expected to produce the next time you click Turn. As far as I know, there's no implemented mechanism to apply meter growth stuff twice to predict for future turns.
A more likely modification would be to show a list of objects and their contributions to the total shown.

That would be nice, too. But what I'm asking for is the total Target for both Industry and Research. That would provide more strategic information on the impact of some constructions, specials, etc. It'd make possible to see, e.g., how much the Target Research changes when a Computronic Moon is focused/unfocused.Geoff the Medio wrote:A more likely modification would be to show a list of objects and their contributions to the total shown.

This is the right forum for suggestions like that, which deal with how the UI works, or what info is displayed/accessible where. The graphics forum would be the place to discuss the details of how things should look like.Cpeosphoros wrote:PS.: I'm still unsure if this is the correct board to post UI suggestions.
At least, that would be my assumption

Tooltips have been added for research and industry that give the used, current total, and target total resource outputs.Cpeosphoros wrote:But what I'm asking for is the total Target for both Industry and Research.

Good addition! I think it'd be useful to show the difference between target and current output in brackets, so the player doesn't have to access the tooltip to get this information. Agreeable?

Not if you want to show it as (+21) or similar... that is not at all what I'd interpret such a number to mean. The Silent One wrote:Agreeable?

Re: Better total Industry/Reasearch tooltip (Top panel)
What else could the numbers mean than difference between turns?

Re: Better total Industry/Reasearch tooltip (Top panel)
I would read that as the growth for next turn.
What I really want displayed somewhere is the total max production so I can see the effects that changing focii and/or researching a new tech will have over time. How it's displayed is a visual/UI thing and not my sphere but if it said (+21) I would assume that next turn my current stat would have gone up by 21.
Given that we can't currently get that to calculate correctly for individual planets odds of me trusting such a number is very small. On the other hands displaying the total tartget production is calculated fairly effectively both per planet and across the board in the Objects menu, but there's no Sum option. Having that in the tooltip would be useful perhaps 121/160 if you want it in the actual menu?

Re: Better total Industry/Reasearch tooltip (Top panel)
Ah, I get it now, I was misreading the tooltip information. What I actually wanted to display is indeed the turn's growth, and not the difference between current and target output. But if that's not readily doable as you say 121 / 160 sounds good to me.MatGB wrote:I would read that as the growth for next turn.

Re: Better total Industry/Reasearch tooltip (Top panel)
I think all four statistics (Used, Current/Target Output and Change) would be very useful. Used and Current Output are already available, though not in the same place. Target and Change are only available as individual planets' values, having them available would be a great addition. Having them all in the same place would be nice.
I think the mock-up by The Silent One is very good, if one interprets the (+21) as the change for the next turn.

I have no idea... but you above you wanted to use the bracketed one to (apparently?) show the difference between current and target output. The Silent One wrote:What else could the numbers mean than difference between turns?
