nebula creation
Re: nebula creation
This is the same as the last one, but slightly modified.... maybe you can't tell... but that's okay...
1024x1024, 24bit.jpeg, Stage1, hand-painted.
First stage, Hand-painted, not quite finished, tight render. I would say only the right side is close to finished, but it's taking FOREVER because
1) I use a mouse
2) It's mostly hand painted, rather than stitching fractal generated clouds together.
What do you think? Better or worse than the last ones?
Re: nebula creation
...
Holy sh....!
And you're saying you're hand-painting this. With a mouse, no less.
...wow. Just wow.

Re: nebula creation
They are epic, well done. You are definitely getting the hang of this, ha
Just the guy I wanted t talk to
This one is also not finished, but finally have 3D related question:
This nebula is about 4x wider than it is tall (2048x512), and is built so that it can revolve completely around the viewer in a continuous loop, such as when it's wrapped across the inside of a 3D sphere or box.
The problem is that right now, when wrapped the border glares at you, and it's quite hideous. Does anybody know how to make the left and right edges of this picture seamless? Is there a special technique I'm missing?

Re: nebula creation
For a texture to fit on a sphere is only needs to be 2 times as wide as high. To solve the seam problem you can use the offset filter(filter - other - offset) and then paint it away, perhaps using the clone brush. Your layers should be collapsed for this to work, so that you don't move just individual layers around. Alternatively you can also do this on each layer of course, if you think it's worth the effort.
Re: nebula creation
Sweet! Josh those are utterly amazing!
I really like the single star at the centre, it reminds me of the nebular from The Mote in Gods eye. Amazing book.Josh wrote:1024x1024, 24bit.jpeg, Stage1, hand-painted.
Updated
The offset function works perfectly, pd. It was a big help.
Stage 2 (3?)
Not much changed here. It might be necessary to do a stage 3.
Here's a tutorial that I followed on how to make it. Nebula Tutorial
I didn't follow it verbatim, and I took a lot of liberties with the procedure.

Re: nebula creation
Wow, that last one is really awesome.
Re: nebula creation
holy molly that looks brilliant!
Re: nebula creation
Hi!
I have recently accumulated some leftover stock nebulae if anyone's interested.
Shared File
No I didn't paint them, I just removed the stars and applied noise reduction filters.
No you may not use them either. Just kidding go ahead, knock yourself out, take as many as you need.

Re: nebula creation
That last one is the sexiest nebula I've ever seen. Keep it up.
Warning: Antarans in dimensional portal are closer than they appear.
Re: nebula creation
Thanks, that went right to my reference folders. Nice work.Josh wrote: I have recently accumulated some leftover stock nebulae if anyone's interested.

Nebula 16
I shrunk it. It's actually bigger when I started...

Re: nebula creation
That is just sick, I wish I could watch you paint...
Re: nebula creation
yes, please : )
Josh, would do a screencast for us?
