Ugmors

EDIT: name simplified to "Ugmors"

Intro
The Ugmorrs is a race of sentient yeast which lives in highly radiated or barren environments. They use rocks and minerals to make temporary bodies designed to perform very specialized and specific tasks.

Homeworld
The Ugmorrs home world, known by it’s inhabitants as Araran, (R-rar-an) is a large rockey world in a tight orbit around a B1 class star named Lararie. (25500 degrees Kelven, 14 times the size of our sun.) The world rotates very quickly, (once every 3 and a half hours) and 30% of it’s surface is covered by seas of lava and liquid metals.

Social Structure
The Larar drifts (sun drifts) are the true center of the species. These masses of yeast sit on top of the hottest part of the lava seas and absorb energy. When the planet is facing it’s sun and enough energy is available large colonies of supercharged yeast will bud off from the main drift. These colonies gather large rocks at the edge of the lava pool and join them together to form Ugmorrs with a silk-like paste which acts primarily as a muscular structure, but variations on the consistency of the paste can be used to form sensory organs or large brains depending on the specific purpose of this particular Ugmorr. These Ugmorrs were originally designed to get from one lava pool to another, but have since developed into a very complex society.

The Larar drifts are not very intelligent on their own. Acting as more of a central memory which carries out the directives of the most recent Ugmorr to be privileged enough to return to the Larar drifts. While the Ugmorrs don’t make any particular attempt to hide the existence of the Larar drifts, very few outsiders know of their existence. This is partially because the environment that the Larar drifts thrive in is hostile to most species and partly because almost all diplomacy is conducted by Ugmorrs who never return to their Larar drifts.

Ugmorrs have a very unified form of government. It resembles a hive, but without a central queen. This is because all Ugmorrs start out with the same racial memories and agenda. When something new is discovered the Ugmorr who discovered it usually returns to the nearest Larar drift to share his discovery with the rest of the species.

Physical Description
An Ugmorr can take on many shapes, but all of them consist of rocks or sheets of metal connected by a sticky fibrous material. They are extremely durable and can even live in empty space for several hours. In their natural environment they can live for up to five years before cooling down and dieing of “old age.”

Ugmorrs as a race are not very bright. While the Larar pools see the value of intelligence, they tend to see it as a trait which should be grown in new Ugmorrs only in moderation, as all the extra neural activity tends to cool an Ugmorr down faster and take several years off its life.

History
Before now the Ugmorrs have had very little contact with society. While they have had FTL drives for many thousands of years, they tend to colonize only planets that the Orion society had very little interest in. The recent invention of lava-domes has caused them to start exploring cooler stars in search for new habitats. This has brought them into contact with other races in the galaxy.

Race Attributes
Advantages
- Very good at ground combat.
- Industry is very efficient.
- Good spies. (Sense they can look like a pile of boulders any time they choose.)
Disadvantages
- Slow research.
- Ships are slightly more costly to build (Since each ship has to have it’s own lava dome.)
- Bad at ship combat.

Here is a patch that adds a write-up of the Ugmors description to their pedia entry:

You've removed most of the headings, except for a couple near the end.

New Species write-ups don't need to include all the same headings, but should have them when relevant to the content. They make walls of text more accessible.

Ok. Here is an updated one that has all the headers, but Intro (which isn't helpful) and History (because the text is not compatible with their current game role).

If you are ok with my work i will move to the next species (maybe Scylior).

Looks good, thanks.

revision 5651

Species description patches are straightforward enough, that it would be more convenient if you bundled several together in one patch.
