Need advice.

#1 Post by ghealy »

playing version FreeOrion_2017-09-12.3ccc82b_Test_Win32_Setup.

Have encountered a hidden enemy ship (OR Griffin Mk.1) Have not seen an AI planet' Am fielding Asteroid hull with Deflector shields & 2nd level plasma weapons. I throw as many as 9 ships at this OR Griffin Mk.1 and it decimates them but suffers no damage.

I was able to check out the ship via Pedia and see it has Multi-spectrum shields. What is needed to over power these shields? The AI ship did not even show itself when attacking planets that had planetary defense level 2.

Pretty darn hard to fight/defend against what you can not see. Not to mention down-right frustrating. :)

Appreciate any and all advise/suggestions.

TIA

Hmm, I think part of the UI complication here is that (it has seemed to me) for a while now there has been an oversuppression of fleet ghosts when your original glimpse of them was only via combat. I had started looking into that, had a partial fix that I don't think I got finished/committed, and then got distracted by other matters. I'll try to get back to that soon.

The pedia entry for those shields tells their value (strength 10). (And Acirema pilots could increase that by 1. So planetary defense level 2 can be enough to take them down, but you'll need enough planetary shielding (and/or fleet reinforcements) to get multiple hits in. Having that at-risk planets with Defense Focus helps quite a bit. With your ships, Laser 4 and good pilots could potentially manage, but better weapons and/or better pilots would make the task easier.
If I provided any code, scripts or other content here, it's released under GPL 2.0 and CC-BY-SA 3.0
