themed tech category icons
Some suggestions for the new themed tech theory icons, a base version for smaller resolutions and a more detailed version for higher resolutions.

Re: themed tech category icons
Thanks, you're doing an excellent design job on the tecfh redesign, too!
Planing to work on some tier icons, I was thinking about how we might name the tiers of each category - should it just be mech1, mech2, mech3... or rather "Advanced Mechanics", "Quantum-Temporal-Mechanics"; or something else entirely?
Edit: if there's gonna be branches, we'll probably go with specific names like we have now, say "Advanced Eco Engineering"?

Re: themed tech category icons
I think the same, names will look better than numbers. But I haven't think of that yet.
I already made a spreadsheet with all current techs and its relevant data (research costs, effects, unlocks, unlocked by, etc.) for starters. My plan is to assign tier and theme to each tech (and adjust tech requirements accordingly) as a first step to migrate to the tiered-themed system, changing, dividing or creating techs as needed. Then I'll add equations (first I need to think them) to help me estimate the effects of the boost techs in the expansion rate. And, once I can see in a glance how many techs have each theme/branch and how powerful can an empire be depending on the theme and tier, I'll keep moving things from one place to another and changing numbers until balance looks good enough for implementation and testing.
So, I guess I won't be able to give ideas for the different branch-tiers until I'm at least half through that job, to see what's in where and can choose meaningful names.

Looks great, I love them all. Nice and visually distinctive.
All of my contributions should be considered released under creative commons attribution share-alike license, CC-BY-SA 3.0 for use in, by and with the Free Orion project.
Re: themed tech category icons
I too would prefer the latter option, with the different names. The numbering thing is good for refinements, but aside from that using numbers sounds too boring. The Silent One wrote: ↑Thu Apr 11, 2019 3:19 pmI was thinking about how we might name the tiers of each category - should it just be mech1, mech2, mech3... or rather "Advanced Mechanics", "Quantum-Temporal-Mechanics"; or something else entirely?
Re: themed tech category icons
The latter is more flavorful, the former is more concise when discussing strategy and easier to remember.

Re: themed tech category icons
I then would go for both, if possible.

Re: themed tech category icons
Definitely:
Is Quantum-Temporal Mechanics before or after Transspatial Mechanics..... easy to know if they are
M6: Quantum-Temporal Mechanics
and
M7: Transspatial Mechanics
Also that way the names can be added last to best fit the fluff that feels best for the techs in that tier
