Hello

I'm playing the future 4.72 from the linux PPA

i've bumped on the kobuntura
Sentient magnetic dust formations with a fascination for building and construction.
Prefer Barren planets.
Self-Sustaining Metabolism

++ Great Industry: 200%
− Bad Defensive Ground Troops: 50%
− Bad Offensive Ground Troops: 50%

Can Produce Ships
Can Colonize Planets

Preferred Focus: Research
?? is it a bug or a feature when the preferred focus differed from the great bonus
usually they are linked

It's intentional, to eventually contribute to balance once happiness & influence are developed more.

There used to be more of that, including some of the player species. It was a bit annoying to play (I think) Chato and always have new colonies starting as Industry instead of Research focus.
