The Tjari

The Tjari (by ExtremePumpkin)
Fri Aug 22, 2003

Intro:
------
The Tjari, are money centric. If it has nothing to do with money, then it’s not worth their time. They expand their empire to find new goods and services to sell to the other (and unsuspecting) races in the galaxy/universe. They are quite adept at making products fast, but of an inferior quality. They also are heavy into the biological markets. They will often sell their limbs and Organs for any use (so long as it pays well).

Since the Tjari are bland and rather “normal” by alien standards their arms and legs are especially popular for replacements amongst other races. The Tjari have little use for research itself, but they are mimetic and can copy technology if needed.

The Tjari know how to get what they want. If they want some piece of technology to make their production facilities more efficient or Aid in the Decompiling process they will sneak behind enemy lines with almost godlike expertise. This also applies to any activity, so long as there is profit in it.

Homeplanet:
---------------
They originally lived on an earthlike planet in the Tjar sytem, but once found profitable they completely relocated to a nearby asteroid field to accommodate other space faring races in their fuel and mineral needs. After establishing themselves on the asteroid field they “decompiled” their entire home planet into its basic materials for selling. Their new homeworld serves no more importance to them then any other venture.

After a while, the Tjari became totally dependant on the low-nil gravity and have no use for planets with medium to high gravity or high temperatures, other then “decompiling” them for their basic minerals.

The Tjari prefer Asteroid belts over anything else, as they are often mid points in inter-system travel. And the most convenient place to sell their goods and services. The weightlessness of most asteroids also aids in the production process of their goods.

Society:
---------
The Tjari have no sense of “home” they always search for the best place to make money and go there (bordering on nomadic). They have no concept of non-monetary value and as such no place or thing is worth more then what it can be sold for.
The Tjari have no centralized Government, they will only work for a government if its in their best (monetary) interests. Only those who see the money in communicating with other races take up the rolls of diplomat/leader.

One of the greatest ventures available to a Tjari is the “decompiling” of a planet, it yields mass profit, however it is an incredibly long process. After the decompile, the planet is a useless hulk.

Looks:
--------
The Tjari in their Native form are rather bland. The males are almost completely indifferent from females (except for a few rare exceptions which are unknown to the majority of the Tjari) as their parents usually start selling limbs and organs from birth. Tjari now rely on artificial means of procreation. Cloning is a very popular and cheap method employed by the Tjari.

Since the Organ/Limb selling Business is very popular, all natural Tjari are non existent and the race has become somewhat reliant on “Electronic Augmentation.” All of the Tjari devices for “Electronic Augmentation” are completely interchangeable, giving them the ability to switch limbs and other devices to suit the current venture. This increases the speed at which they can produce items.

History:
---------
In their early history, the Tjari were small villages that would sell what they had to others (for a reasonable price) this, over thousands of years became their “instinct to sell.” These villages soon became unprofitable and Tjari soon relied solely on themselves and not on their Villages. “Families” would often have children just for the possibility of selling them for cheap labor.

Only after the Orions vanished did they see any reason to expand beyond their native planet. Around that same time a ship of unknown origin fell onto their planet. They feel this may have been the cause of the Orion crew vanishing. They used its technology to build their own ships and begin an Exodus to the Asteroid field on the outer edge of the Tjar (their local) System. They then set up their various shops all along the Asteroid belt. Luckily for them, their System lies on an important starlane and their businesses boomed.

Within a hundred years, they turned their eyes to their original home planet. Using the technologies they had used from their trades and sales with the rest of the galaxy. They developed their “Decompiling” Process; which, sadly for the wildlife of Tjaria was the first planet to have the procedure done to it.

They now turn their eyes to the stars looking for new ventures to gain material wealth.

Pros/Cons:

Pro
--Bonus from Trade agreements
--Good Mining (“Decompiling”)
--Good Production
--Decent Spying

Cons
--Ships have diminished hit points (due to low quality)
--Very poor research
--Debt causes massive unrest/revolt
--Lack of centralized society causes things to generally cost more then it would for other races.
--Other races generally do not trust Tjari products. Anything with the “Made in Tjar” phrase immediately provokes the notion that it is a cheap and low quality product. As such, it is harder to set up agreements with other races, however, once one is set up they will utilize it to a great extent.

In the other thread you asked if we were going to use them because you don't want to spend too much time on them if we don't. The decision which races we're going to use is a loooooong way in the future. And when I say loooooong I mean looooong^200. Races are scheduled for Version 0.8 and that's anywhere between one year and eternity from now on...

Another disadvantage for your race, the 'Decompiling' process, resulting in:
-Very bad environmental (bad at looking after the environment) :)

I thought of an interesting idea while reading the planet system to be used.

could asteroid feilds perhaps be only habitable to Tjari? and perhaps they cannot inhabit anything bigger then a small planet/planetoid, seeing as they'd Decompile anything bigger... and it gives an interesting turn in strategy...

Well the Decompiling process takes a while I'd assume, but they should be LoG.

Probably should get a few bonuses to ship combat to due to experience in space. (and possibly better connection with computers)

Due to their phisiological simplicity, their limbs are popular for all organic breeds due to their low rejection rate.

Another suggestion is as they went out in space, the life support/food processing systems often required organic materials not easily available in space, so Tjari would sell their limbs/small young as fertilizer. (this resulted in an overall net efficiency as they then needed less food to eat, using power and parts instead)

Suggesting that they get a Cybernetic pick. (Their ships are lousy buy they repair them easily)
